By the mid-twentieth century, medical illustrators and anatomists had produced detailed measurements and indices intended to standardize the recognition of disproportionate finger length in clinical and research contexts, reflecting the era's enthusiasm for anthropometric precision. Pathologists examining cardiac tissue from individuals with the Marfan phenotype had also begun describing changes in the aortic wall, situating arachnodactyly within a story far larger than its evocative name suggested.
